Mereside Primary's annual remembrance service was held on Thursday 11th November 2021 with all pupils and staff of Mereside joining in with an act of remembrance where a minute’s silence was held at 11am. Rev’d Linda from the local Freedom Church carried out the service with support from the Head Boy, Charlie White and Head Girl, Tayla Hawes who read Flanders Field.
The service allowed children to think about all those servicemen and women who have given up their lives for our freedom and indeed those who still serve our country today. We were joined by a representative from Blackpool Brass Band who played ‘The Last Post’ during the silence.
Miss Rowland – History Lead stated: “Every child in school has created an individual cross with the name of a fallen soldier from Blackpool on the reverse. The children are encouraged to remember this name during the minute silence and reflect on the ultimate sacrifice they made for our freedom. The service allows for us to join together in an act of remembrance and respect for servicemen and the whole school takes pride in creating our Remembrance Garden”
